Interpreter Training

Our interpreters are the voice for your multilingual customers and the communication medium between your customers and service representatives. That voice must be accurate, clear, and precise. That voice must also consistently demonstrate the ability to accurately conserve the meaning of a source language when rendering it into English—at an efficient pace without omissions or additions. That’s the goal of TeleInterpreters’ training program, which culminates in our advanced-level certification.

What’s at Stake for Your Business?

  • Information security and U.S. privacy laws governing the protection of customer data are paramount, requiring specific training in professional ethics, confidentiality, and privacy protocols.
  • Performing in an over the phone environment—without the benefit of face-to-face communication—requires meticulous development of consecutive interpretation skills. According to the ASTM International Standards for Language Interpretation Services, “Interpretation is a complex, demanding task that requires an excellent command of languages, possession of skills and abilities specific to interpretation, and knowledge of the subject matter being interpreted. Bilingualism alone is insufficient.”
  • Optimal interpreter performance for all the languages that your customers speak, because official certification by a qualified, objective agency is available for only a limited number of languages.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity training to ensure accurate interpretation and to promote brand loyalty among multicultural segments.

Judging on Performance

TeleInterpreters’ training program is designed from our customers’ perspective. Customers judge our language services on performance. So our training methodology is built on task performance that mirrors what an interpreter is likely to encounter during assignments.

Over The Phone Interpretation Training

All interpreters are required to complete TeleInterpreters’ over the phone interpretation training. After completion of 40 hours of simulated interpretation scenarios using versions of real-world applications, interpreters are eligible to conduct interpreting assignments under supervision. TeleInterpreters’ Interpreter Development Division monitors interpreters in training during these assignments and assesses performance according to specific criteria.

The outcome from 40 hours of monitored assignments determines whether a candidate receives TeleInterpreters’ advanced-level certification in Over The Phone Interpretation.

Industry Specialist Certification

In-language support for acute and non-acute medical issues, insurance claims, legal proceedings, and loan processing requires specialized industry training. Demonstrating the ability to accurately understand and express complex and specialized subject matter is required of our industry-specialist interpreters.

To become eligible to support industry assignments in healthcare, emergency services, insurance, legal, and financial services, interpreters must successfully complete:
  • 20 hours of instruction and industry-specific simulated training
  • Testing on comprehension and use of industry terminology and concepts
  • Performance evaluation from monitored assignments (minimum 10 hours)
  • 40 hours of target industry call assignments with review and evaluation of recorded sessions

Continuing Education Training and Certification Renewal

TeleInterpreters requires 40 hours of interpreter continuing education training per year. Continuing education, performance reviews, and annual renewal of interpreter certifications keep our interpreter resources performing at the highest level of quality.
